Das 5. DD-IX Open Tech Meetup

Published: May 13, 2026 | Author: Maurice

The fifth Open Tech Meetup took place on May 7 at the Brauerei Lohrmanns in Kraftwerk Mitte.

So far, this has been the largest OTM with 56 attendees. We started the evening with a few technical difficulties, but fortunately moved on to several very interesting talks afterward.

In the first presentation, Christian Dieckhoff gave a talk titled “White Box Early Adopter – What could possibly go wrong?”. He shared many insights into the challenges of deploying routing software from new white-box hardware vendors. Thanks to patience, extensive debugging, and quick fixes from the vendor, most of the issues have already been resolved.

After that, Sebastian Neuner spoke about the ongoing development of a research network in Baden-Württemberg. We gained insights into topics such as the tendering process, how the PoPs were selected, which technologies are being used, and who is responsible for remote hands operations.

The next talk was presented by Gregor Düster and Jonas Mücke on “Deploying an IPFIX exporter in a university network”. They explained how flow data from the TU Dresden network is processed using only limited resources and also shared some interesting examples of data analysis. Following a spontaneous request from ALASCA, Friedrich Zahn also gave a presentation introducing SCOMB.

This time, the DD-IX updates were kept short. Thanks to WOBCOM, we were able to upgrade our BCIX outreach to 10G. We also welcomed our new peers HLKomm and WOBCOM.

After the presentations, we wrapped up the evening with food and drinks, which were free for all attendees thanks to sponsorship from Flexoptix. Many thanks again for the support!
